Okay, I've been doing some research on declining health and nursing home admittance. It seems to me that there are many factors involved..preexisting health problems, heart and diabetes were both mentioned specifically and what the practices of the nursing home are. Restrained patients..like legit restraints for people who can't hold themselves upright in a chair for example...tended to increase the rate of decline. Heart disease and diabetes were also factors in increasing rates and if the patient is taking a combo of meds for both dementia (like Aricept..which was mentioned specifically) and incontinence. One report I read talked about as mobility decreases(bedridden or wheelchair bound) so does mental and physical abilities. One sight that has a lot of great info on a wide range of topics is www.seniorjournal.com From alzheimer's to dementia to general health issues to erectile dysfunction...I know...EEEEEE!!!! But I guess for some that's important too....check it out! Love you, Jamie

  1. I talked to our neighbor who is the activities director at the nursing home here. She said that we will experience good days and bad days from here on...especially with Mom. She said that sometimes TV has a negative stimulus on some patients. She uses large beads and a type of rope material for them to use their hands...if able. I know all facilities are going to be different..but I'm glad that LCN is keeping them clean and fed well. Love, Ona
