It's been a very interesting day. Dad is still better but not totally out of the woods. He had times of combativeness(sp?) again but then times of being okay. The Nephrologist (kidney doc) talked to Pam when she was there and she really liked him and trusted him. He thinks that Dad will more than likely come out of this at least even to where he use to be. Of course he doesn't know that for sure. He also thinks that this was a combination of the new medication they started Dad on when he first went there that is a medication actually for blook pressure (dad's has always run and NOT high but is given to help with kidney function too) plus the antibiotic they started him on in LNC that starts with a B--Pam wasn't sure. When I asked Leisa about it she said the only one she knows that is routinely given for a Urinary tract infection is Bactrim DS which has been around for a long time and she herself prescribes this routinely. She said she was anxious to find out what it is because the Nephrologist said he has seen lots of cases where this causes renal failure! YUCK. Those 2 medications plus the dehydration he believes is the cause. They hadn't gotten any more results that I know of on the Potassium level and the last was 6.3 I think. (These may not be totally accurate but I've talked to all sisters that were in the hospital at different times!) They will tell us tomorrow about what level he is now and go from there. He is not a candidate for long term diaylsis if it came to that but would be one for 1 or 2 times IF needed to finish flushing out the potassium. Lets hope it doesn't come to that! Jim is spending the night with Dad tonight and Jeanie will go back up in the morning. As for the nursing home--we found out that Craighead count has no openings for now but we can put them on the waiting list where they could go there when an opening happens. Looks like for now he'll have to go back to LNC. Jeanie will check with the lawyer to make sure it's fine to change homes but she thinks it will be fine. Craighead county costs more so not sure how that will be done but if we have to put our $10,000 back in the pot--so be it! It's their money anyway! Okay, long day, going to bed. I volunteer at St. Joe's tomorrow so I probably won't know anything more till afternoon. Love to all, Judy Oh and any sister---feel free to correct me! I'm doing this second hand! LOL
