Ok, when I got home today I had letters from DHS about Mom and Dad. About what I have been expecting! Mom's states:
This is to advise you that effective 10/1/10, your nursing facility medicaid application has been approved for co-insurance only (no vendor payment) for the month of October only as you were resource ineligible for the months of November 2010, December 2010, January 2011, February 20100 and March 2011. Once you have spent down your resources, please feel free to re-apply. In regards to the penalty period of 6 months and 20 days for the transfer of $30,000.00 to your children, since you were resource eligible for Medicaid in October, your penalty period began with the date of application which was 10/1/10 and will continue to run through 4/28/11.( This means that they aren't going to pay ANY of Mom's past charges nor future ones through the end of April)

Dad's says the same except he's resource ineligible for Jan 2011, and approved for Feb 2011, but 'due to your Miller trust account balance of 3/1/11 being $5830.96, this places you over the current divisor of $4514.00 and your Medicaid will be in suspension for the month of March. We strongly advise you to use the excess funds to pay the nursing home. We will need the 4/1/11 balance of the Miller trust and your joint account so we can determine whether or not to take your case out of suspension. We will send notification of this request at a later date. His penalty period began with the date of eligibility which was 2/1/11 and will continue to run through 8/20/11. ( this means we owe everything back charged for Dad + all his charges through Aug of this year!!!!!!!!!!!! The reason his account has too much in it is because DHS told me NOT to dispense any funds from it until they told me what to dispense!!!!!!!!!! I mean there is NO winning here, girls! N-O-N-E!!!! I'm calling Chad in the morning and I'm sure he will file an appeal, but this is getting ridiculous! I've got bills for 6 months that need paying + the pharmacy bills that I have put on hold also! It is just a paper nightmare. No matter what I/Chad do, it just keeps coming in a 'chase your tail' circle! I'll let you know what he says after I contact him tomorrow. I've got to try to figure out WHAT they owe, too, so that IF we wind up having to pay, I'll have an idea of WHAT each of us will have to put in. I am sick of fighting this whole thing with them. It is so demeaning as far as I'm concerned, but I think that's the way they treat everyone. YUCK! Sorry for the new, Love you all, Jeanie
