Nikki just called me this morning with ANOTHER incident about Dad. This morning his blood sugar was again low---86. I TOLD her again that Dad functions best at around 150. She totally agrees. Nevertheless, this morning he refused to put in his teeth to go eat breakfast. The speech therapist has been working with Dad because he 'squirrels' away food in his jaw---she said he does this with and without his teeth. Anyway, this morning he got a HUGE piece of sausage down his throat and was choking---had already started turning blue!YIKES---and she had to do the Heimlich maneuver on him!!!!!!!!!! She said it was SO scary! I talked to her about the recent rash of low blood sugars---she also was going to send all the info to the doc and see if they needed to make sure he got a night snack, needed to wake him in the night for a snack or just cut down/out the evening dose of insulin. I said something about the amount of food he took in was related to the amount of insulin he needed---I figure he's not taking in as many calories as he did at the time this was prescribed. Anyway, she said she figured he'd have some bruising around his middle---I assured her that that was OK---I was just glad she was there and strong! I also said something about his meat being cut into smaller pieces---especially if he wasn't wearing his teeth! Good grief!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was going down there at lunch today to check on them today anyway, so now I'll REALLY check on Dad! Love you all, Jeanie
