I went down to check on Mom and Dad at lunch today. Dad looked good, but obviously the 'incident' was really bad. Everyone down there was talking about it to me. At lunch there were 4 people at their table helping and watching. The one woman (I believe she's the head nurse or in charge of the nurses or whatever her title) told me that half a dozen or so people were standing around crying saying do something. She said it was really scary. She's also ordered some swallowing tests on Dad (they called this afternoon to tell me those were scheduled for Mon morning at around 9:00 at the St Bernard's imaging center). She said they needed to be sure that he could swallow all types of textures so this did NOT happen again. They had already had Dad x-rayed for broken ribs---they had not gotten back the official report, but the technician said he didn't see any. They were all worried to death about him. After he got up from his morning nap, he didn't remember anything about the incident at all!!! Nikki said she was telling him what had happened, and he kept thanking her! Dad had his food chopped at lunch today. That's good. I told Nikki again about Dad's blood sugar functioning best for him around 150. She totally agreed. She said that this morning with it low, he was confused and didn't understand as well--thus wouldn't put in his teeth, which made him not chew, which made him choke. It was a downward spiral. She was sending his Feb blood sugar levels over to the doc to see what they wanted to do---if anything. She said again about making sure he had a snack at night and possibly waking him for another one. I told her if he had trouble swallowing that waking him to eat was probably NOT a good idea! Ya think!?! Anyway, they were all watching him like a hawk. Mom was not really alert, but she ate everything I fed her: ice cream, yogurt, rice, cake, red beans, salad. I didn't feed her the sausage in the red beans because the skin on those things are kind of tough, and her teeth are not that great. She really didn't know I was there, but they said she'd been Mom today. LOL! So I'm guessing she'd been a mess earlier. Ok, I'm off to bed. Love you all, Jeanie
